What to do When You’ve Lost Your Blogging Mojo

Dec 10, 2018 | Blogging

You started blogging because you love to write, to create and to help people. And then all of a sudden you’ve hit a wall and no matter how much you love blogging the words just will not flow.

Burn out amongst bloggers is super common. As simple as it sounds, running a blog requires a lot of hard work and dedication, particularly if you want to make an income from it. And even more so when you have kids!

So what do you do when you hit that wall and the last thing you feel like doing is sitting in front of a computer and writing?

Write for someone else

Sometimes all you need to get your mojo back is to just start writing again. That’s why you fell in love with blogging in the first place isn’t it? But if you’ve lost your mojo then take a step back from your own blog and write for someone else. A few guest posts for blogger friends may be the kick-start you need (and if they are happy to give you a follow link on their blog for your time then it can do wonders for your domain authority, more on that another day).

Reassess your vision and purpose

Why did you start blogging? Was it to help people? To move to a laptop lifestyle? As a creative outlet? An accident? Whatever your initial vision was, if you’ve lost your mojo there is a good chance you have either lost sight of that vision along the way. Go back and look at why you started your blog and what you want to get out of it now. A renewed sense of purpose might be just what the blog doctor ordered.

Step back and take a break

There is nothing in the blogging rules that says you can’t take a break. In fact, there are no blogging rules and that is probably why you love it so much. Rather than sitting at your keyboard struggling to come up with content ideas, step away from your blog and take a break. Let your followers know what you are doing and take some time to refresh and recharge your batteries. You never know what new stories you will have to tell at the end of it!

Go back to basics

Blogging is more than just adding posts to a website. There are email lists and social media and photos and media kits and the rest. It can all start piling up making you want to run far far away. If you want to be successful at blogging, it is important to get all of your ducks lined up in a row. Getting back to basics and putting plans in place so you avoid burn out in the first place. In January we are doing just that with Amplify your Blog so if you have been feeling the love for blogging diminish, we can help reignite the spark and set you up for an awesome 2019!

Speak to other bloggers

If there is one thing that can help you succeed at blogging, it is having other blogger friends who just get it. If you don’t have any blogger friends, find some! If you do, talk to them about how you are feeling. They know you and your blog and can likely help you look at your blog through fresh eyes.

The message is to not abandon blogging altogether just because you are in a rut. We all go through it, even the most successful bloggers do!
